I’m writing this letter in response to the Lewiston City Council’s decision to stop providing trash removal services for buildings with four or more apartments. I understand that trash removal is an ever-growing expense and burden for the city. But to place that burden on only some of the population and not all is un-American.
As an owner of a six-unit apartment building, I will be forced to pay an additional $420 per year in taxes, in the form of a trash removal fee, to provide the same service that others with smaller buildings receive for free. If the city can no longer afford to provide this service, then all residents should be charged equally.
