FARMINGTON – The Apple Valley Babe Ruth District 5 champions ended the season by splitting 2 games at the recent State Babe Ruth Tournament held at Farmington.
Apple Valley beat Western Mountains East of Farmington 8-1 as Mike Eaton hurled a complete game, losing his shutout in the final inning. Mike Cotnoir, Chip Burnham and Jim Palmer were repeat hitters. Chris Stevens and Brandon Wheeler rapped 2 hits each in a losing effort for Farmington.
Apple Valley was ousted with a 6-2 loss to Gorham. Lefty Mark Schmidt scattered 7 hits in picking up the mound win with a complete game. T.J. Poulin and Andrew Dean each cracked 2 hits. For AV, Tavis Hasenfus and Wally Rines both singled and scored a run. Scott Ogden piched well in relief.
