OTISFIELD – A no-smoking policy will soon be in effect for all community sponsored recreation.

Recreation Director Marianne Izzo-Morin informed selectmen she had been investigating a policy with Joe Wyman from Healthy Oxford Hills because parents had complained about smokers at ball games.

Board members noted the community baseball field as well as soccer field is on SAD 17 property, during their meeting Wednesday night. Izzo-Morin said the school district plans to adopt a no-smoking policy in September.

The selectmen told Izzo-Morin to wait until the school district policy goes into effect, then the town can adopt the policy and it will be uniform.

If the policy is adopted, it will prohibit smoking at recreation sponsored events like baseball, softball, soccer and the annual Easter egg hunt.
