JAFFREY, N.H. (AP) – A dozen people were injured when lightning struck a crowd at a carnival, but all were out of the hospital by Sunday.

A storm swept in and two lightning bolts touched down about 6 p.m. Saturday as thousands of people gathered for a carnival and fireworks show at the Silver Ranch airport, Keene police said. Eight victims were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released. Four others were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Lightning also set off some of the fireworks, but the fireworks did not cause any of the injuries, authorities said. Lightning also struck a woman at Scenic View Campground in Warren shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the campground owners.

The woman was outside her trailer when she was struck. Authorities said the woman, whose name was not released, was alert and in stable condition when she was taken to Spear Memorial Hospital in Plymouth for evaluation. Several homes and businesses also were struck by lightning during Saturday’s violent thunderstorms, and scattered power outages were reported.

Electric utilities said the hardest hit communities included Durham, Hampstead, Portsmouth, Raymond, Sandown and Stratham.
