I am amazed at the lack of outrage by the hard working, tax paying residents of Auburn in regards to the fiasco of Mayor Guay and the actions of City Manager Pat Finnigan and Assistant City Manager Mark Adams.

I have always taught my children and the schools teach them that driving with any amount of alcohol in your system is wrong and dangerous. Yet, city officials are arguing the level was within the legal limits and that the arrest was in politically motivated.

We have a situation where the men and women who protect the residents, the Auburn Police and firefighters, are being told by the city that it can’t afford to pay them more than they make now. I hope we all realize that the city could never afford to pay them what they are worth.

Just in case anyone forgot, a contract is agreed upon by two or more parties during a process called “good faith bargaining” with the elected officials being our agents or voice in the process. Residents should demand that their agents in the process, the city officials, hold up their end of the bargain. The dedicated, brave men and women have kept their end of the bargain to protect and serve, and the city officials, as agents for the people, had agreed to pay them with an increase of a paltry 2 1/2 percent.

We should be demanding the elected officials, agents on behalf of the people, follow through.
