Everything is all set for the big day – you have the shoes, the dress, the catering hall. Now all you need is everyone to show up. But how are you going to get you and everyone in your wedding party to the big event? It’s up to you to figure that out. A little planning can make the ride less bumpy.
Make transportation arrangements 4 to 6 weeks in advance and 5 or 6 months ahead if you’re getting married during prom or graduation season. Ask friends, family or wedding-related services who they recommend.
Shop around and compare prices, as rates vary. Some services have a three- or four-hour minimum, but also see if they offer a pickup and drop-off service so the car isn’t waiting for passengers during the ceremony and reception. A 15 to 20 percent tip may be added to your bill (be sure to tell guests if this is the case so that they know not to tip). What kind of vehicle should you get? It all depends on how many people will be riding and where you’ll need the vehicle to take you (the ceremony, a photo spot, the reception and hotel or airport). Limos come in an array of sizes, colors like white or black and makes like Lincoln or Jaguars. Limos can hold just the bride and groom, or a stretch limo can hold around 18 people. If you want something more spacious, look into a mini bus or van, which can hold between a dozen and 40 people. Your wedding party and even some out-of-town guests could hop in. Also, ask about a wedding day package, complete with champagne, balloons, astereo, a TV and even a red carpet.
Once you book a service, request a copy of the contract. Note what it says about overtime, refunds or deposits and parking costs and tolls (included or additional), as well as a cancellation policy.
To avoid wedding-day stress, make a list of the guests who need to be picked up, pickup and drop-off addresses, times and directions to all locations. Confirm this information with the car company the day before or day of the wedding, and make sure the service has a copy of your list. All passengers should have a copy of the directions and an emergency contact number in case the driver gets lost or doesn’t pick them up.
Coordinating transportation may not be as fun as picking your wedding dress, but taking care of it in advance will help prevent last-minute stress. And it will ensure that everyone arrives in style – and on time – on the wedding day.
