PERU – East Shore Road on Worthley Pond will be evaluated and improvements started soon, selectmen told residents from there Monday night.
“We’d like to know when or if East Shore Road will be worked on,” Worthley Pond Association spokeswoman Cindy Kelly said. “It’s been 25 years since real work has been done on this road. Taxes are substantial for the people on this road and we would like a commitment from the town to know when something will be done.”
Selectman Jim Pulsifer said the road needed to be put on the agenda, but there were several problems to be addressed. Rocks would have to be removed, and the closeness of the camps to the road would have to be addressed for ditching purposes. The road should be totally reconstructed, he said.
The board decided to have it evaluated and improvements begun in the near future.
A long discussion arose over how the roads in Peru were prioritized and there was consensus of those present to put together a plan and implement it.
Selectman Andy St. Pierre said he would work with Road Commissioner David Gammon to develop a five-year priority list subject to review each year.
In the meantime, Gammon will put up a “No Through Truck” sign at both ends of the road to help conserve the road surface.
A resident of Ridge Road sent a bill for damage to a mail box during recent road work.
Selectman Ron Chartier said such requests should come before the board before replacing property.
The board voted that in the future when cards are sent to residents on roads to be worked on that it state that the town would not be liable for property that was in the town road.
