BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) – A Vermont soldier was injured during a raid in Iraq.

Jordon Sorrell, 21, of Brattleboro was wounded Monday when a bullet went through his arm, his mother Wendy Brown said.

Sorrell sustained nerve damage to his arm and was being treated at an Army base in Germany, his mother said. He was expected to be flown to Washington for treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

“He sounds good, he is doing good. He sounds better every day,” said Brown, who was on her way to Washington Friday to see her son.

Sorrell called his mother from the field with news of his injury, Brown said.

A spokesman for the Army in Washington refused to provide details about Sorrell’s injury.

Sorrell, graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, was in Brattleboro last month to attend the funeral of Kyle Gilbert, an army soldier who was killed in Iraq. Both men were part of the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division.
