PERU – Families in Crisis Task Force served approximately 50 people at its monthly dinner Monday at the Rockemeka Hall.
The task force is a social service agency financed by the federal Emergency Management Agency, United Way, area towns, donations and fund-raisers.
On Monday, about half the attendees for lunch were from the town of Peru and the rest were from Canton, Mexico, Dixfield and Sumner. Many of the people who come for the free meal are on fixed incomes and some are without jobs.
Turner is volunteer director of a group of people who perform many duties. The third Monday of each month will find them busy cutting pies and doing other tasks to serve meals.
Harriett Sicotte of Peru said last year when Turner was looking for a place to house the Task Force she suggested asking the town for the Rockemeka Grange Hall. At the time, the hall was not being used by many groups and she thought it was a good choice, she said.
