NEWTON CENTER, Mass. – Maine advanced to the final round of competition in Wednesday’s play at the USGA State Team Championship.
Ricky Jones of Thomaston, who shot a record 64 Tuesday, fired a 79 Wednesday. Still, his effort, combined with a 72 the day before from Scott Dewitt, and a 76 Wednesday from Mark Plummer, earned Maine a spot in the final round which is cut to the low 36 teams. The two best scores from the three players are used each day of the competition.
