Everyday, I hear how bad a casino would be for the state of Maine. Some person in our state is spending millions to fight the casino, by running expensive ads on TV, radio and in the newspaper.

One excuse they use not to have a casino is poor people will spend their money. Two minutes later you see a spokesman in a state advertisement, telling you to play the Maine Lottery. You see signs and billboards saying play the lottery. When you go in a store, there are scratch tickets, sponsored by the state.

I personally have seen people that I know, who don’t have much money, buy lottery and scratch tickets. That is their business and their right to do so.

My point is, just because the state isn’t going to control the money, they don’t want it. I’ll bet you stand a better chance of winning at a casino than you do in the lottery.

It seems to be OK for people to spend their money on scratch tickets, lottery tickets and alcohol, because the state controls them.

It should be a town’s choice if it wants a casino. It should not be a decision made by politicians in Augusta or by outside influences.
