WALES – The Wales PTSA is sponsoring a Close to the Cows Country 10K and Calf One-Mile Fun Run, October 5. Oakie from Oakhurst Dairy will be on hand to help celebrate the first annual road race. Proceeds will benefit the children of Wales Central School.
The Calf Run will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 10K at 9:00. Starting line for the 10K will be at the corner of Route 132 and Woods Road. Races end at Wales Central School. Parking will be available at the school. Transportation will be provided to the start line if needed.
Entry fee is $12 for the 10K and $3 for the Fun Run. Pre-registration can be made by calling 933-5119. Sign-ups on the day of the race will be conducted at 8 a.m. at Wales Central School.

AUBURN -The Jamie Benson Sports Scholarship Foundation will be the beneficiary of tickets being sold for the Portland Pirates-Lowell Lock Monsters hockey game, October 4 at 7 p.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Portland Junior Pirates will be taking on the Lowell Junior Lock Monsters at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $8, with $5 going to the Benson Scholarship Foundation.
