CONWAY, N.H. (AP) – The Mount Washington Observatory is getting a new executive director who is well known in political and environmental circles.
The observatory has hired Will Abbott, formerly director of the Squam Lakes Science Center in Holderness.
Abbott worked on the campaign of the first President George Bush and was on Sen. Judd Gregg’s staff when Gregg served in the U.S. House of Representatives. He also was executive director of the state Land Conservation Investment Program.
Last year, former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen nominated Abbott to lead the state’s environmental agency.
Abbott said he looks forward to expanding the observatory’s work to advance public understanding of weather, climate, and the history of the White Mountains.
