LOS ANGELES (AP) – Comedian Louie Anderson is recovering in a hospital following two procedures to correct an unspecified heart problem, his agent said Tuesday.
The heavyset performer, 50, felt ill and admitted himself to an undisclosed Los Angeles-area hospital last week, his longtime agent, Steve Levine of ICM, told The Associated Press.
Levine declined to offer other details or say what kind of medical attention Anderson received, but confirmed the ailment was “definitely his heart.”
However, he added, it wasn’t a heart attack.
“When he first went in they did a procedure that worked great but then they wanted to do a little further work and it took a little longer than they thought, and that’s why he’s been in for over a week,” Levine said. “It’s over. It was successful, and he’ll be fine.”
Anderson’s recovery period remains unclear, and his tour schedule has been canceled for the next several weeks.
Levine said he planned to continue booking shows for Anderson as soon as possible.
Anderson, a Minnesota native, is a former host of the syndicated game show “Family Feud.” He won two Daytime Emmys for voicing a pint-sized version of himself on the Saturday-morning children’s cartoon “Life With Louie,” which ran from 1995 to 1998.
Film credits include roles in “Cloak & Dagger,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Wrong Guys.”
He also wrote the autobiographical books “Dear Dad: Letters From an Adult Child,” “Goodbye Jumbo … Hello Cruel World” and “The F Word: How to Survive Your Family.”
