Dan Rideout’s allegation that Lionel Guay used his status with the Festival de Joie and the Franco American Heritage Center to launch his campaign is ridiculous, unfounded and untrue (Sept. 23).

The fact that Mr. Guay announced his intentions in May proves that he did not take advantage of the heightened publicity of the Festival de Joie in July-August to announce his candidacy. Any candidates for any municipal office may announce their intentions to run for office at any time.

Mr. Guay’s appearance at the New Gateway Lisbon Street project demonstrates that he is serious about becoming Lewiston’s mayor by being well informed about the current projects and issues in the city. This is also evident by his presence in the front row of every city council meeting.

In the interest of fair disclosure, the writer of this letter is Mr. Guay’s campaign treasurer and serves with Mr. Guay on the Festival de Joie and the Franco American Heritage Center Boards of Directors.
