CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Sugarloaf Mountain base lodge will be the site of the Upcountry Artists’ annual fall art and craft show on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12. It will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There is no admission charge.

Upcountry Artists is a diverse group of artists, artisans, and friends of the arts that was formed in 1986. The fall Sugarloaf show allows this nonprofit group to offer scholarships to students majoring in various art fields. It also supports local events such as Art in the Park and Foothills Art Camp.

Fifty exhibitors will fill the base lodge with paintings, photography, furniture, clothing, jewelry, baskets, pottery, dried floral arrangements, handmade soaps and stained glass. Returning artists include the show’s coordinators, Stan and Barbara Keirstead, Upcountry Artists’ President Mary Beth Morrison, Irene Duplissis, Nancy Trider, Irene Roth, Peter Meehan, Tracy Medling, Pam Ellis and John Bickford.

New this year will be watercolors by Camden artist Carol Sebold and acrylics by Lewiston artist Paul Boucher. Three new photographers will exhibit, as well as returning photographers Scott Perry and Don Waterhouse.

Sue Kannally will be back with her popular blue/green pottery. Other potters include new member Mary Spencer of Winthrop and Upcountry’s newsletter editor Kika Nigals with her whimsical creations. Natural soaps made by Julia Staples and Amy Grant, jewelry by Debbie Auch and Karen Campbell, baskets by Joanne Smith, quilted items by Pat Johnson and fleece and knitted items by Pat Gallant, Janet Kennedy, and Wendy Furey will be part of the show.

Kathy Hayden will be available to do caricatures, which were popular last year. Mark Wren will give an ongoing stained glass demonstration.
