MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A woman drove through a police barricade at Manchester Airport and tried to get near Air Force One shortly before President Bush left New Hampshire on Thursday, police said.
The woman, who has not been identified, drove through a blocked intersection when traffic was stopped on the motorcade route, police said. President Bush was at least five miles away when the woman was arrested.
Because Bush was returning to the airport, the gates to the tarmac were open. The woman drove though a security checkpoint and onto the tarmac, where it appeared she was trying to get to Air Force One, said Manchester Police Sgt. Mark Fowlk.
A police chase ended when an airport operations truck rammed into her car to stop her, said Airport Director Kevin Dillon. Police say the woman was alone.
Airport security and Secret Service jumped out of their cars and arrested her, Fowlk said. The woman was being interviewed by Manchester Police and Secret Service on Thursday afternoon.
