RUMFORD – Two days after a heated humidifier was reported stolen from a Rumford resident, police recovered the item and returned it to the owner’s family. Officer Douglas Maifeld, who recovered the humidifier, said the family of a woman who passed away recently, reported the theft. The man who took the device, reportedly worth $4,000, claimed the woman gave it to him, Maifeld said. No charges are pending.

Vandals caught

RUMFORD – A group of youths who reportedly threw rocks through windows at a Rumford Avenue resident’s home Monday, were chased down and caught by the victim’s friends. After speaking with the complainant and the youths, police released the group to their parents.

Car vandalized

RUMFORD – A Rumford resident reported Sunday that his car, which was parked by the ballfields at Hosmer Park, had been damaged extensively. The windshield and a stereo were broken and the steering column was damaged. No estimates were listed in the police report. The incident occurred between 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, and 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.

Woman charged

RUMFORD – Melissa Theriault, 31, of Mexico was summoned on a charge of operating after suspension Sunday on Route 2.

Cash, items stolen

RUMFORD – At 6 p.m. Sunday, a Maine Avenue resident reported that someone broke into her apartment and stole $50 cash, three movie videotapes and some children’s toys. The thief also smashed a jack-o-lantern. Police believe the incident occurred sometime between 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.
