On October 24, Elm Street School had it’s first annual dance of this school year. The students started arriving at about seven o’clock. They waited patiently in line to pay the admission of four dollars and then enter the dark gymnasium.
The student counsel was taking the money, stamping the hands of the people who paid, and working at the concession stand.
There were around five chaperones, including the principal, Mary Martin, and vice principal, Arthur Reed. Also, they hired a D.J.
At first no one was dancing because it seemed quite awkward as it usually does the first dance. By eight o’clock people finally started dancing. The D.J. played slow songs, which few participated in, the Macarena, the Electric Slide, the Chicken Dance, and the Bus Stop, which was made up by past students from E.S.S.
The dance ended around ten o’clock, and students waited outside for their parents to arrive.
A group of eighth grade girls said, “Last years dances were a bit more exciting, but it was fun for the most part. They will get better.” It was a fascinating night for everyone.
