PORTLAND – The University of Southern Maine Chamber Singers will perform their popular “Joyous Sounds for a Festive Season” concert Dec. 2.
Classical works by Jan Campanus Vodnansky, Thomas Tallis, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Charles Villiers Stanford and USM composer J. Mark Scearce will be combined with spirituals and gospels, songs from other cultures, and masterpieces of seasonal music.
The concert will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Immanuel Baptist Church, 156 High St.
The singers, who are chosen through auditions, perform a repertory centered on a cappella literature of the Renaissance and the 20th century, and music of various world cultures.
Conductor Robert Russell is professor of music at USM, and is music director of Portland’s Choral Art Society.
A donation of $5 is suggested for the concert.
