Children’s cookbook spices up Thanksgiving holiday
NORWAY – She doesn’t need Betty Crocker and has no use for a long turkey bake time.
Montessori School Director Alicia Loper said the only recipes needed to guide Epicureans through this holiday are the 7th Annual Montessori School Thanksgiving Cookbook.
Children at the school were asked what their favorite holiday recipes were.
To start the day off correctly Clare Kramer, 4, offered Clare’s eggs.
“We make it with eggs. We crack them and we crunch them and mix them,” she said. “We don’t need to cook them. We eat them on a plate.”
Riley Hemmings, 5, has her special method for preparing turkey.
“You clean it out first and then put it in the oven and turn the oven on and you cook it for 4 minutes,” she said. “Then you eat it.”
Jonathon Gillespie, 6, said his favorite dish is apple pie.
“You put some apples on it and you squish the apples and you can see the seeds on it and you mix it and it makes apple pie,” Gillespie said. “You cook it for 30 hours, If it’s done, the pie will come out.
“And be careful,” he warned. “It’s hot!”
“It’s another example of the wisdom of children,” Loper said.
Loper said the children make various dishes throughout the year to match the season.
“We asked the children for their special recipes and then we were the scribes,” she said. “We wrote the answers down verbatim.”
There is a limited printing of the book and it is not sold in bookstores.
