Organizers say basically anything goes in the Holiday Decorating Contest.

DIXFIELD – Town décor is about to get a temporary makeover as residents participate in Dixfield’s final bicentennial event – a Holiday Decorating Contest.

Glowing reindeer in the yard, Santas on the rooftop, Nativity sets or giant snowmen on lawns and Christmas lights on everything else. Basically, anything goes, says Bicentennial events co-organizer Charlotte Collins.

“It’s been quite a while since we’ve done this,” she added Tuesday.

Judging takes place during the evening of Saturday, Dec. 20, and prizes will be awarded to the three best-decorated homes.

December also marks the final month to bring in items to be placed in the town’s bicentennial time capsule.

One might be a new town report. They’re available now for the period from July 2, 2002, through June 30, 2003, at the town office, said Collins, who was named Dixfield’s Distinguished Citizen for 2002.
