RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board is expected to act on several rewritten polices, hear an update on standards-based reporting, and learn about several resolutions recently passed by the Maine School Board Association when it meets on Monday.

The regular twice-monthly session begins at 6:30 p.m. in the library of Mountain Valley High School.

Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said he and board member Jarrod Dumas plan to discuss such resolutions as the state school board association’s concern about the federal No Child Left Behind Act and a resolution about essential services and programs.

He said a thumbnail sketch of the progress made on standards-based reporting will be presented. This new way of “grading” students eliminates letter or numerical grades and replaces them with a measurement of how well a child meets certain educational standards.

Also on the agenda are an appointment to a nutrition services position and the resignation of a Mountain Valley Middle School baseball coach.

Two closed sessions are planned. The first is to begin preparations for negotiating a new teacher contract. Their contract expires on June 30, 2004. The second is to discuss the process to be used for evaluating the superintendent.
