NEWRY – The Gizmo Guys take to the stage as Sunday River Resort’s Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series kicks off its eighth season on Saturday, Dec. 27.
The Gizmo Guys – New Yorkers Allan Jacobs and Barrett Felker – combine technical juggling expertise with fast-paced, offbeat humor. The two take to the stage in checked jackets and baggy pants with their little suitcases of larger-than-life tricks. In addition to the usual pins and balls, the audience never knows what the two will pull out next. Could be Chinese yo-yos, hats or some other gizmo.
Jacobs learned to juggle from his roommate while at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Felker learned the art of juggling at the age of 15, from his cousin. Since 1977, they have been entertaining around the world.
By the time they joined forces, 10 years later, they had already been on six of the seven continents. In addition to touring extensively in the United States and Canada, the Gizmo Guys have performed in places as diverse as Saudi Arabia and Japan.
Curtain time is 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River Ski Resort.
