LEWISTON – The French and English choirs and the Scola Cantorum of Saints Peter and Paul Parish will present a Lessons and Carols Service Saturday, Dec. 20, in the upper sanctuary of the church at Ash and Bartlett streets.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will be presented under the direction of Scott Vaillancourt.
The Norumbega Brass Ensemble, which consists of five musicians and music educators, will join Vaillancourt, who will play the church’s great Casavant organ.
The program is a blend of traditional carols, Advent and Christmas music.
Vaillancourt received his B.A. in music from Bowdoin College in 1992 and both a master’s in music composition and a master’s in tuba performance from the University of Michigan in 1994. He is currently active as a freelance composer, arranger, performer and teacher in the central and southern Maine areas.
Some of the ensembles he has performed with include The Portland Symphony, The Portland Opera Repertory Theater Orchestra, The Atlantic Chamber Symphony, The Bangor Symphony, The Colby Symphony and the Portland Brass Quintet.
He is music director at Saints Peter and Paul, serves as staff composer/arranger for Manduca music publications, teaches part-time at the University of Southern Maine, University of Maine, Bowdoin College and the Portland Conservatory and is principle tubist and organist for the Norumbega Ensemble.
Audience members will be able to listen to the Christmas story as told through Scripture, sing favorite seasonal hymns and enjoy Advent and Christmas music as performed by the Norumbega Brass Ensemble and parish choirs.
Admission is free, although a donation to the organ restoration fund would be greatly appreciated.
