OXFORD – Jim Hamper of Oxford has petitioned the Secretary of State to have his name placed on the Nov. 2 ballot for election to the state House of Representatives.
The 48-year-old vice chairman of the Oxford County Republican Committee is seeking the District 100 seat to represent Oxford, Otisfield and Mechanic Falls.
District 100 is being created from District 64, which is represented by Ted Heidrich, R-Oxford, who is not seeking re-election.
Hamper worked closely with Heidrich on all three of his successful election campaigns and has job shadowed him at the State House in Augusta.
“When Ted Heidrich was first elected I began job shadowing him at the State House, and I realized I was suited for the demands of working in the capital and that I wanted to be Ted’s successor,” he said.
Hamper has lived in Oxford Hills for 30 years and has served in public offices.
He received an associate’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Maine Augusta in 2001 and has taken courses in political science and economics.
