OXFORD – March 13 town meeting voters will act on a six-month budget to see the town through until June 30.
Then they’ll come back for another town meeting, tentatively set for June 12, when they’ll vote on a full fiscal year budget, from July 1, 2004, to June 30, 2005. The two meetings are necessary in order to change the fiscal year from January to December to July to June to coincide with the state and school district’s.
The March 13 budget of $1.29 million covers early 2004 expenses, Town Manager Mike Huston said. In 2005, there will only be one town meeting, and it will probably be held in June, he said, although there is some concern that fewer people will attend compared to March.
Selectmen recommended the change to a new fiscal year so the town won’t have to guess what its education assessment will be, and that will help the Budget Committee.
