OXFORD – Selectmen approved the warrant Thursday for the March 13 town meeting.
The meeting will begin with elections at 10 a.m. at the Oxford Elementary School. Terms are expiring for Kerry Halterman and Ron Kugell on the SAD 17 board, and David Ivey and Roger Smedberg on the Board of Selectmen.
Included in the 50-item warrant is a budget of $1,295,026, along with several non-money related questions.
Among the non-money items is a request from the Recreation Committee to develop the former fire and police stations on King Street into a recreation complex to include an ice rink, horseshoe pits, storage for recreation materials and a community room.
If voters reject the proposal, then they’ll consider whether to sell both buildings and the land by listing it with a real estate broker.
Another item asks whether town highway equipment should be used on private ways “whenever the selectmen deem it in the best interest of the town for fire, rescue and police protection.”
Voters will be asked to raise $10,000 for a reserve account to be used in updating the town’s Comprehensive Plan. Another request asks for $7,000 to establish a reserve account for use in doing a road inventory using the Maine Department of Transportation’s Road Surface Management System software.
Town Manager Mike Huston said the program will allow the town to inventory all the town’s roads and keep track of when they are due for repairs. The program will allow for advance planning of road repair projects, Huston said.
“Each time we do the upgrade, the overall condition of the roads improves,” he said.
The Fire/Rescue Department has also requested an article be added to have the town adopt the National Fire Protection Act Life Safety Code 101, 2003 edition, as a building code.
