LUDLOW, Vt. (AP) – A 15-year-old girl from Chappaqua, N.Y., was killed Saturday while skiing at Okemo Mountain Resort. Laura Rubinow was skiing with a friend when she lost control and hit a tree and a trail sign, Vermont State Police said.

It was the first ski fatality in Vermont this season. Last year, Vermont had three or four fatal ski accidents, said David Dillon, president of the Vermont Ski Areas Association.

Okemo spokeswoman Pam Cruickshank said several witnesses called for help after Rubinow fell. “We had ski patrollers on that trail, so the response time was just about immediate,” she said.

Rubinow was taken to Springfield Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
