We are indebted to Speaker of the House Patrick Colwell for introducing a life-saving piece of legislation. Last week, the Taxation Committee unanimously voted “ought to pass” on the bill to have a spay/neuter donation checkoff on the Maine income tax form. The money collected through this donation would be used to fund a statewide spay/neuter program.
Spaying and neutering are the most powerful tools we have to fight the needless deaths of thousands of unwanted pets. Speaker Colwell deserves a sincere thank you from everyone who cares about cats and dogs. I hope of our state senators and representative support the spay/neuter checkoff bill, LD 1763.
