I think the mayor of San Francisco has a good point. Just because some people do not meet the requirements for a state-run program (marriage in this case), does that mean we have the right to exclude them? I say no.
Likewise, I will be applying for government farm subsidies. Do I own a farm? No, but I do not mind. I am sure I do not meet any of the other requirements either.
The way I see it, the government pays some farmers not to grow corn and guess what, I don’t grow corn. If I am not allowed these subsidies, I am sure people will see the clear and blatant discrimination involved.
The 14th Amendment guarantees my equal protection. To deny me these funds simply because I do not qualify would obviously be just short of a hate crime.
And so, I will be awaiting my piece of the pie. I know my rights.
