Lewiston Middle School
Lewiston Middle School students have an opportunity to proudly exhibit their art work at the Bates College Olin Arts Center from March 9-20. Thanks to the Bates partnership with LMS, Anthony Shostak and Sue Martin, over 100 art pieces ranging from paintings to masks to wheel-thrown pottery will be on display as LMS seventh and eighth grade art students celebrate Youth Art Month. The celebration kicks off with an opening reception on March 9, at the Bates Olin Arts Center from 6-7:30 p.m. Fine works of art such as scratchboard, block prints, silk-screen prints, erase prints, plaster sculptures, mixed media relief and hand built day projects created by LMS students in our art classes will be included in the exhibit.
If you cant make the opening at Bates, the Portland Museum of Art will be displaying art work from all over the state of Maine. Two LMS students are represented in this exhibit including eighth grader Crystal Coolong for her day mask and seventh grader Paige Libby for her scratchboard work. Opening reception in Portland is on March 5, from 5:30-8 p.m. and awards for middle and high school will be presented from 7:15-8 p.m. Special thanks to the Maine Art Education Association and Portland Museum of Art.
Youth Art Month concludes with an exhibit in the Maine Education Office in Augusta on March 20, from 1-3 p.m. Twenty-nine works of art from around the state of Maine including two LMS students will be presented. Samantha Morency will show her day relief and Jason Trombley will present his scratchboard. Many thanks to the Maine Education Association and the Maine Art Education Association for this exhibit with a big thank you to Mark Gray and Rob Walker for their efforts with this project.
