RUMFORD – Mountain Valley High School students will present the Tony Award winning musical, “Kiss Me Kate,” from March 25-27.

Nearly 30 cast members and another 10 students have worked on the play within a play for about two months.

“It’s been a lot of work,” said Matt Hutchins, a sophomore who plays a comical gangster in the show.

Along with the singing and dancing cast are students who have been designing the set.

The play follows the lives of an egotistical actor-producer, played by junior Andy Bohren, and his temperamental ex-wife, portrayed by Petra Hamilton-Denison, a high school senior , in a production of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” The play features music by Cole Porter.

Students are portraying both modern-day and Shakespearean actors.

High school music program member Terry Eldridge is directing the musical with the assistance of choreographer and accompanist, Cindy Bohren. Students playing other major parts in the show include Danielle Desjardins, Aaron Cayer, Max DiMilner, Hilary Glaus and Dylan Cayer.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, through Saturday, March 27, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $5 for students, and $5 for the matinee.
