“Flip-flop” is defined by Webster’s dictionary as “an acrobatic spring backward from the feet to the hands and back to the feet” or “an abrupt change, as to an opposite opinion” or “a flapping noise.”

Gov. Baldacci’s effort at balancing the state budget is flip-flop government at its best.

Baldacci rejected creation of a casino, but he embraces Powerball. He supports establishment of a racino, but he creates rules restricting their existence.

Baldacci ran for office promising no tax increases, but tells us now he meant no broad-based tax increases. He has increased taxes on hospitals and nursing homes, forcing patients who are flat on their backs to help run government. Need evidence of a “sick” state economy?

Over the past two weeks, Baldacci flipped when he said he’d agree to look at a tax increase to fund Dirigo Health’s program expansion, but “flopped” backward later.

Even now, Maine is the fourth highest state regarding Medicaid costs per capita. And still Baldacci works to grow that tax burden higher.

The trouble with having a governor infected with a case of the flip-flops is that the malady is contagious. Daily, I meet Maine citizens who wish they hadn’t voted against the casino.

Yes, Maine’s economy is sick in bed, doctored for 20 years by Democrats with a pitiful economic bedside manner.

Question is: How much sicker does Maine need to get before we vote flip-flop Democrat politicians out of the State House?
