RUMFORD – The Rumford Point Congregational Church will hold a Maundy Thursday potluck supper and service on Thursday, April 8, at the church. The potluck supper begins at 6 p.m., followed at about 7 with the service. The Easter Sunday service begins at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcomed to both services.

Smoking cessation

RUMFORD – FreshStart, an American Cancer Society smoking cessation program, is being offered at Rumford Hospital starting Monday, April 12. The program consists of four, one-hour sessions led by Sarah Coolidge. It addresses reasons for smoking, methods and activities to help smokers quit and strategies to help them remain smoke-free. Classes also will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, April 14, April 21, and April 28 in room 357 at the hospital. The program is free. Call 364-7408 to register and for more information.

Fun night

RUMFORD – Family Fun Night will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the American Legion, Congress Street, to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Walk.

A spaghetti and meatball supper will be served from 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Entertainment and magic will be by Scot Grassette. There will be a craft table and games for children, Chinese auction, 50/50, gift baskets and quilts to purchase. Cost for adults is $5 and children 10 and under $3. RUMFORD – The next business lunch and learn seminar will be on Wednesday, April 21, at the River Valley Business Resource Center, 34 River St., from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost is $8 and includes lunch. Earth Day

RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition will celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up the paved walking trail at Hosmer Field. Members and other volunteers will meet at the football field at the main entrance off Waldo Street at 3:30 on Thursday, April 22nd. People should bring work gloves and a rake. The coalition will provide water and light refreshments. All groups, all ages, everyone welcome. For more information contact the group at 364-7408.

Relay for Life

RUMFORD – Walkers, cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), community leaders, team captains, and workers are needed to make the American Cancer Society Relay For Life a reality. Team captains will meet April 21, followed by a volunteer committee meeting will at 5:30 p.m. May 5, at Rumford Hospital.

Relay For Life is a fundraising event to be held at Hosmer Field on May 21.

Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams; seek community support; and underwrite, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment, and lend their support. RUMFORD – The American Cancer Society has selected Peggy Brigette to serve as honorary chair for this year’s Relay For Life of Northern Oxford County.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature event and is as much an awareness raiser as it is a fund-raiser. Businesses, civic clubs, churches, friends, and families take turns walking while celebrating the role the American Cancer Society plays in the fight against cancer.
