This is in response to Elizabeth M. Emery’s explicit letter April 6 dealing with what a certified doctor can do to a fetus. I’m wondering how anyone can take a subject so complex and reduce it to such levels?
There was another article in the Sun Journal recently about a man who had stabbed his wife repeatedly in the chest and abdomen. The wife was, if I am remembering correctly, eight months pregnant. Her baby could have easily survived outside the womb. The man, however, was only charged with her murder. I am sure that there are grandparents who are not only deprived of the daughter, but of a soon-to-be-born grandchild.
Regretfully, I personally do not see a day when Roe v. Wade will be overturned, but I do see that a distinction ought to made between a person who can survive outside the womb and one who cannot. And those who commit crimes against such persons ought to be punished.
