FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Players’ next production is “Proof,” written by David Auburn and winner of a Tony Award for Best Play and the 2001 Pulitzer Prize.
Against a backdrop of mathematical genius and mental illness, Catherine (Amalia Marenberg) has been the full-time caregiver to her gifted yet troubled father, Robert (Dan Robbins), until his recent death.
She must now deal with her well-meaning, but controlling sister Clair (Mandi Favreau), and the attention of her father’s young protege, Hal (Zak Cates).
She does this while pondering how much of her father’s genius – and illness – she may have inherited.
The discovery of a wonderful new mathematical proof among her father’s papers creates a mystery of authorship in this emotionally charged presentation.
Directed by Robbins, this is a well-seasoned cast, all of whom have performed together before, most notably in the Players’ production of “The Crucible” last year.
“Proof” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 29 and 30 and May 1 and at 2 p.m. May 1 and 2 at the Alumni Theatre on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
Tickets are available at Howard’s Rexall on Main Street, Farmington, or at the door. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and children, $5 for UMF students.
Tickets will be $8, $6.50/$4 April 29 only.
