RUMFORD – American Legion Auxiliary Napoleon Ouellette Unit No. 24 in Rumford will hold its annual Poppy Drive on Tuesday, May 11, in Mexico and Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14, in Rumford and Mexico.
The poppy grew as a wild flower in the fields of France and Flanders over the graves of soldiers who had fallen in the “Great War.” It became the living symbol of those who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of others.
The poppies, distributed by the American Legion Auxiliary, are made by disabled Veterans in government hospitals and provide a small income for the veterans.
Donations benefit veterans and the dependents of disabled or deceased veterans.
