CANTON – A Rumford man was still in critical condition Monday after breaking his neck in a motorcycle crash off Canton Point Road Sunday.

Jerry Hubbard, 50, of 104 Somerset St. suffered a broken neck when his large 1995 Harley-Davidson, cruiser-type motorcycle landed on him, said State Police Sgt. Percy Turner on Monday.

Hubbard remained in critical condition Monday night at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Med-Care Ambulance responded to the wreck, which occurred about 2:45 p.m., but Hubbard was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to CMMC.

Turner said Hubbard was coming out of a curve on the Canton Point Road, but, instead of rounding the turn, he went straight off the road and into a field. Hubbard was thrown from the machine, police said.

“There are no skid marks, so we don’t know why he went straight,” Turner said.

Although he was not the investigating trooper, Turner said he did not believe that speed was a factor in the wreck.
