FARMINGTON – The Central Maine Summer Soccer League kicked off Sunday as Appalachia United of Farmington defeated Oakland 2-0. Trevor Parent of Rumford put on a great individual effort as he beat 3 defenders, then slipped a low shot past keeper Joe McPerson for a 1-0 lead. In the second half, Farmington’s Tyler Hartshon scored from 30-yards out, a high, arcing shot, to make it 2-0. United goalkeeper Darren Allen earned the shutout, making 5 saves. McPerson had a busy evening, stopping 15 shots.

In other league action, Augusta beat Fairfield 6-0, as Waterville’s Joe Spofford collected a goal and an assist.
