LEWISTON – Tim Mains, who drilled 2 hits, scored the winning run in the top of the seventh, as Auburn Suburban edged Elliot 5-2 Monday at South Lewiston in an opening Major Division game in the District 5 Little League Tournament. AJ Poulin drilled a 2-run single in that 3-run inning. Ryan Arnold had walloped a 2-run homer in the third. In the sixth, Cam Ivers made a great defensive play to send the game into extra innings. Winning pitcher Mat Gordon, who aided his cause with 2 hits, 1 a double, and scored twice, allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 10, in his 6 innings of work. Jesse Barlow pitched the seventh for the save.

For Elliot, David Ouellette doubled and scored; McKay Hyde walloped an RBI triple and scored a run; and Alex Brochu also legged out a triple and pitched 4 solid innings.

Elliot will take on South Lewiston today at 5:30 at Augusta East.

Auburn Suburban’s next game is Thursday, July 1 at 5:30 at home against Hall-Dale.
