In response to a recent letter condemning two young people for sunning at a cemetery (Dorothy Soule, June 20), I respectfully submit these thoughts.

Is it possible that these two people were siblings picnicking with a lost sibling or parent? Or maybe two friends visiting a passed friend?

I think it is important to keep in mind that all people connect and experience God and death in different ways. I know that in a society where respect is hard to find these days, this may be easy to lose sight of. Ultimately, visiting a cemetery to be with a lost loved one is also a way of connecting to God. Let’s embrace that.

I truly and sincerely offer my respects to the original writer for her loss. But let’s not permit our rigidity in old ways to stand in the way of possible new paths to God.
