YARMOUTH – Entries are now being accepted for the 15th Annual Betty Blakeman Memorial Tennis Tournament, held in conjunction with the Yarmouth Clam Festival.

The tournament will be held on the weekend of July 16-18, at Yarmouth High School. Typically attracting players of all ages and abilities, the Blakeman features play in men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles and men’s 55 and over doubles.

MTA Championships in Portland this weekend

PORTLAND – The 32nd MTA Championships, one of the four major tournaments on the Maine Tennis Association’s summer circuit, is set for the weekend of July 10-11 at Waynflete School in Portland.

Competition will be held in men’s open singles and doubles, women’s open singles and doubles, as well as in men’s 35 and over, 45 and over, and 55 and over singles. Singles play will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

RE/MAX Long Drive qualifier on tap

ORRINGTON – Maine’s only RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship local qualifier will be held Saturday, July 17 at the Rocky Knoll Country Club located on Rte. 15 in Orrington.

Competition will be broken down into the following classes; Men’s Open, Men’s Senior (45-54), Men’s Super Senior (55 and up), Women’s Open (any age), and Junior Boys and Girls (15-17) divisions.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., with competition in all divisions starting at 11 a.m. Entry fees are $30 per person for the Men’s Open and Senior divisions, $20 for Men’s Super Senior and Women’s open divisions, and $10 for junior boys and girls per six ball “try”.

The contest is open to all amateurs and professionals. Each contestant must declare a division prior to competition. Maximum club length is 52 inches.

Moxie Day 5K Road Race Slated

LISBON – The Lisbon Department of Parks and Recreation is preparing for the Annual Moxie Day 5K Road Race, to be held Saturday, July 10 starting at 7:30 a.m. The event is held in conjunction with the town’s famous Moxie Day celebration, known throughout New England for its namesake cola.

The event will begin in Lisbon Falls, behind the X-tra Mart across from the Lisbon High School. Registration starts at 6:15 a.m. and continues until 7:15 a.m. The fee for pre-registration is $10 and on race day it is $12. The course will consist of a quick scenic run through the outskirts of town. The route is mostly flat, but does include two steep upgrades – one at the start of the race and the second at the two mile mark. Maps will be available on the day of the race.

Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female finishers. Awards will also be given to the first and second place male and female finishers in the following age categories: 12 and under, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. Additional awards will be given to the first male and female “Lisbon Resident” finishers.
