RUMFORD – Jennie L. Murray, 86, of Mexico, died July 6, at Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born in Rumford, on July 16, 1917, the daughter of Norwegian Immigrants Anna Marie (Ericson) and Simon Anderson.

She attended local schools in Mexico, and her high school years were spent at Stephens High School, graduating in 1935.

She married Earle C. Murray on Sept. 4, 1938.

She was a member of Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Churchwomen of that church, serving on the altar guild for many years, and was also a member of the Regional Council there. She was a member of Purity Rebekah Lodge 56 of Rumford, where she served as financial secretary for many years. She was a member of Past Noble Grands Association of that lodge, and received the Decoration of Chivalry from the State of Maine in June 1984.

She worked for 12 years in the Coffee Shop of the Rumford Community Hospital as a volunteer and worker.

She and her husband, Earle, ran the beach resort Murray’s Cove for 25 years, where swimming classes and the Beach Club were held. She was a member of Le Paresseaux Snowshoe Club of Rumford, and honorary member and past president of the Mexico Mothercraft Club of Mexico.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Earle C. Murray of Mexico; two sons, Roger E. Murray and wife Barbara of South Portland, and Kenneth G. Murray and wife Jeannine of Peru; one daughter, Darlene Taylor of Lebanon, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Eric, Heidi, Holly, Rochelle, Nicki, Jennifer and Robert; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Edith Anderson; and four brothers, Sigard, John Henry, George and Harold Anderson.
