JAY – Maine State Trooper Scott Dalton arrested 84-year-old Leopold Couture of Jay June 30. Couture was charged with unlawful sexual contact.
Couture allegedly had contact with a 10-year-old girl about 6 p.m. June 29 at his home on Main Street. The victim’s mother reported the incident that evening. Police investigated further before interviewing and charging Couture the next day.
Police were unable to release details of the incident in a telephone interview Thursday, citing protection of the alleged victim.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Detention Center, where he posted $1,000 cash bail and was released.
A court date is set for July 25 at Franklin County District Court in Farmington.
