LIVERMORE FALLS – The Water District has been granted a $1 million loan and grant to upgrade its water lines on Main Street when the Maine Department of Transportation does its rebuilding project, Superintendent Doug Burdo said.
The loan portion is $555,000, and $445,000 is a grant.
In other business, Burdo told the district’s trustees Wednesday morning that replacement of filtration sand at the Moose Hill Treatment Plant went so well that he would like to replace another of the four filters this fall.
Burdo said the first replacement took less time than expected and came in under budget. In addition, he said flows have increased 25 to 30 percent, which looks very good.
The trustees authorized Burdo to get estimates on surveying the lot where the main office building is located. Burdo said the descriptions in the deed are unclear, and he would like to know exactly where the footprint is.
The district plans to expand the office and garage area to make it handicapped-accessible. He also noted that the Planning Board has asked that an attractive buffer strip be included in the district’s plans.
Summer residents of Parkhurst Pond in East Jay, also known as Parker Pond, have asked to purchase a small lot from the water district property so they can move a shed. Burdo will negotiate with the couple.
Trustees agreed to hire H&R Smith as the accounting firm to do the audit.
Chairman Margaret Leclerc will represent the board at the National Rural Water Association’s annual Leadership Forum Oct. 10-13 in Biloxi, Miss.
