LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen have modified the vote that will be taken Wednesday, July 21, regarding a proposed adult bookstore. The store’s application is now before the Planning Board.
Instead of a vote on a moratorium for such businesses, the vote will be a nonbinding opinion poll only, said Town Manager Alan Gove.
Previously, town officials had sought a six-month moratorium, during which time an ordinance could be developed. But Maine Municipal Association told the board the ordinance would not be ready in time.
Residents have already raised considerable objections to the proposed store, and a petition is circulating against the store.
The special election, which will be from noon to 8 p.m. at the fire station, had been called to fill a vacant position on the Board of Selectmen. The only candidate for the term, which will end next June, is Joyce Drake.
