L/A Arts’ Music in the Parks concert series will present the Blue Hill Brass Quintet Tuesday, July 20, in Auburn and the Port City Jazz, a five-piece Dixieland jazz band, Thursday, July 22, in Lewiston.
Both concerts start at noon.
Port City Jazz will liven the air with jazz tunes of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s. The Blue Hill Brass Quintet consists of some of Maine’s most distinguished musicians. The quintet’s members have played with the foremost ensembles in the state, including the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Al Corey Orchestra and the Maine Chamber Ensemble.
Performances by the Blue Hill Brass Quintet feature music of the past five centuries. Curt Brossmer and Allen Graffam wail on the trumpet while John Wheeler, Paul Greenstone and Steve Norris rake up some amazing tunes on the horn, tuba and trombone; together they create a memorable ensemble.

The Port City Jazz Band began in 1997 with the intention of becoming a combo focused on the sounds of Chicago and Kansas City jazz. The band members, Carl Bradford, Joe Laflamme, Eric Anderson, Al Doane, Dave Sutton and Don Whitney, have played at such events as University of Maine football games, the Yarmouth Clam Festival and at River Tree Arts.
Their music concentrates on the old jazz standards that are as popular today as they were when they first appeared in the ’40s and ’50s. The result is a sweet mix of upbeat tempos that make people want to dance.
Port City Jazz will play in Courthouse Plaza, Lisbon Street, Lewiston, Thursday, July 22. Rain dates are always the following day at the same time and location.
