FARMINGTON – Franklin County Superior Court Justice Joseph Jabar revoked a Phillips man’s probation Friday, citing a preponderance of evidence.
Police arrested William E. Cochran, 32, at his home on May 26, charging him with probation violations after a Phillips woman reported that he had sexually and physically assaulted her several times between January 2003 and May 26, 2004.
Cochran was sentenced in 2001 to 10 years, with all but 18 months suspended, when he was convicted of sexually and physically assaulting another Phillips woman on several occasions starting in 2000.
He was indicted on seven new charges in Superior Court June 22. The new charges, five of assault and two of endangering the welfare of a child, landed him back in Franklin County Jail.
Cochran had served 18 months of the 10-year sentence and now faces incarceration for the remaining 8 years, plus any time that may be added as a result of the new charges.
The recent charges came to light when the woman who made the report contacted the Department of Human Services. The woman’s two children had been placed with the woman’s mother on May 4 when one of them described her home life to a school counselor.
Cochran is scheduled for sentencing on the probation violation in Franklin County Superior Court on Aug. 27.
