BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) – A roadside bomb in the northern city of Samarra killed two American soldiers and wounded another, the U.S. military said Friday.

A U.S. military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the bombing occurred at 6:30 p.m. Thursday south of Samarra, a hotbed of violence 60 miles north of Baghdad.

Earlier this week, U.S. forces and militants engaged in running gunbattles in Samarra. Four Iraqis were killed and five were wounded, said Ahmed Jaddo, a hospital official.
